Mara's Stories: Glimmers in the Darkness

What is one to do to pass the time in a concentration camp?  A young girl named Mara tells stories to the women and children.  The stories are folktales she tells are about the gathering of the Jews, the camps, and the gas chambers.  She also tells of Jewish traditions, from legends of magic and swindler’s tales to prayers.

  3. Like PJ said I also think the Jewish traditions in this book are a good addition. It would be good for students to know some of the Jewish traditions and culture, especially if they don't have much experience with people of the Jewish faith. Maybe you could even have some books that aren't specifically about the holocaust but about Jewish families, traditions, faith, etc. to provide some background information.
